Where everyone is welcome!

Providence Presbyterian Church

Presbyterian Coffee Project

Providence is one of over 1800 Presbyterian churches that support Equal Exchange by purchasing fairly traded coffee, tea and chocolate.  Equal Exchange is a democratically organized, worker-owned cooperative, founded in 1896, to pioneer a new model of trade built upon fairness and stronger relationships between farmers and consumers.  In purchasing these products, we join a network that enables framers in Latin America, Africa, and Asia to stay on their land, support their families, plan for the future and care for the environment.  Through Fair Trade we are helping create a more equitable world.  For more information, visit http://www.equalexchange.com

MayaWorks

MayaWorks is a volunteer non-profit organization that markets products and shares the stories of Maya women in the Guatemalan highlands.  Its mission is to empower Mayan women to end their cycle of poverty and improve their lives.  It is a member of the World Fair Trade Federation and Aid To Artisans.  MayaWorks returns all sales profits to Guatemala.  In addition to direct payment to the women who make the products, MayaWorks funds scholarships for young women, training programs and micro-credit loans for the artisans and their families.

Providence supports this mission by holding sales of MayaWorks products at the Presbyterian Women's Spring Retreat, at the Shrimp Festival in Fernandina, at the Fiesta de Santa Maria in Fernandina Beach, at St. Peter's Episcopal Alternative Gift Fair and other venues.

Barnabas Center

A local organization founded in 1986 by a group of parishioners at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Fernandina Beach, Barnabas Center is truly a grass-roots community effort. With funding from individuals, several churches and civic groups, charitable foundations, government and local businesses, Barnabas Center helps by providing food, clothing, household goods, medical and dental care, and subsidies to cover rent and utilities to help those in crisis stabilize their lives.
